Do’s & Don’ts

 

  1. You will need to discontinue the use of an anti-inflammatory drug or blood thinner such as; Aspirin, Coumadin, Warafin, or Plavix for 5 days prior to your procedure.
  2. You may take heart, blood pressure, asthma and seizure medication the morning of the procedure with a small sip of water. Do not take any sedatives, tranquilizers, insulin or aspirin unless you are told other wise.
  3. You will be contacted by one of our nurses 24-48 hours before your procedure to review your health history. They will instruct you on your arrival time and answer any questions you may have. You will need to have available a current list of your medications with the dosage and frequency as well as your allergies and reactions. If you have not been contacted by a nurse by the afternoon prior to your procedure, please call the Surgery Center before 3:00 p.m.
  4. You may brush your teeth the morning of the procedure but do not swallow any of the water.
  5. Bathe or shower prior to arriving for the procedure with antibacterial soap. Remove all make-up, nail polish and hair pieces. Do not put on any perfume or lotions.
  6. Please do not wear any jewelry, or bring anything of any value with you. All ear rings/tongue rings or body piercings must be removed prior to surgery.
  7. You will need someone to drive you home. You will not be permitted to drive yourself from the center or leave alone in a taxi. If someone cannot wait for you in the Center, a contact phone number will be required before the procedure.
  8. Please limit the number of people to accompany you to the Center in order that we may provide optimal care and comfort for all persons.
  9. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. The nursing staff will have you change into a patient gown once you have arrived.
  10. Please DO NOT EAT or DRINK ANYTHING after midnight, the night before the procedure. This includes chewing gum, mints, any type of food or drink including coffee. If you arrive to the surgery center and have consumed anything other than what was directed by the Doctor or nurses before the procedure, your procedure may be canceled. If you smoke, no smoking after 6:00 p.m.
